TRANQUILITY

Despite recent trends suggest that hospitality should be a home-away-from-home experience, they are limited to guestrooms only. The nature of lobby as a social hub still stays the same. We believe hospitality should provide a place for ultimate relaxation in the state of mind, calming oneself whilst engaging in truthful communication, redefining luxury in hospitality experience.

A FUTURE HOSPITALITY PROJECT / HOTEL LOBBY & GUEST ROOM DESIGN / SPRING 2014

The use of lobby nowadays is to welcome all kinds of guest, no matter they stay in the hotel or not. These guests range from foreign businessmen to locals; activities range from business meetings to solely dining. Yet back to the nature of hospitality, which is to provide accommodation and lodging service, nothing we see now, and perhaps in the near future, have that sense of comfort and calmness when one enters the hotel. Although turning a lobby into a socializing hub could connect people more easily and get them engaged in social communication, the lobby becomes a never-ending meeting area, as cafe, restaurant, and bar start to become part of the lobby.

Inspired by Chinese ink landscape painting, we aim to merge the essence of Chinese ink landscape painting - to move (可行) , to see (可觀) , to travel (可遊) , to live (可居) , with modern hospitality experience, creating a space of tranquillity. Guests then immerse themselves in the drawings while experiencing the true nature of hospitality - tranquillity in the state of mind.
